The Baas and Baas Hill preserve the name of the manor of Bas , Baa 1395 Cl, Baas maner '1479 IpmR, Bashell 1383Cecil , Bassehills Common 1668 Sess, deriving from the family of Henry de Bathonia (1257 Ch) and John de Ba (1287Ass ), which must have come from Bath (So). Cf. Basmead (PN BedsHu 55).
