Etymology

Chesley Hill, cf. the Chestles or Castles 1779 Rudder 211, Chessells 1841TA , also Chestellingtrue 1189 GlastonInq, v. ceastel 'a heap (of stones)'. Rudder states that the field contained three large druidical stones with remains of a Roman villa (at grid 156–706718).
