Etymology

'Wicga's gate', v. geat , doubtless a gate on Wyegate Lane where it crosses the parish boundary. The pers.n. is OE  Wicga (cf. Wig Pool 220supra ); in later forms of the p.n. it has been influenced by R. Wye, ½ mile to the west.
