Etymology

Westrip, Westroppysend 1557FF , Westrype , Westrip 1573 ib, 1711 Will, Westropp 1603GR 445, Westhrupp 1717 Will. 'Western outlying farm', v. west , þrop , cf. Westrip (i, 90supra ). It is 2 miles west of Stroud in contrast to Thrupp (i, 140supra ) which is 1½ miles southeast.
