Etymology

v. weall , fleot . Wall , from the sea-walls. This was originally the name of the estuary of the Roach and Crouch (supra 10, 6).Cf. fletum voc. Walflete (in Dagenham or Rainham) 1299WalthamC . The island is not a parish but is divided among the parishes of Canewdon, Eastwood, Paglesham, Great Stambridge and Little Wakering. v. also Wallet supra 16.
