Etymology

Ness Barn (6″). Cf. six fields called Neys , hither Neys , Middle Neyes , etc. 1703, Naze 1886 Rochford. This is the plural of eg with the n from the definite article, v. æt . Naze came to be associated with Shoebury Ness , and the spelling was altered accordingly.
