Etymology

Manwood Bridge (6″) is Romynbridge 1432 ECP, Rammynsbregge c. 1561 Paper. The hill leading from the bridge towards Colchester is known as Roman Hill (6″), on which, in East Donyland, is Roman Hill Fm infra 388. The river flowing under the bridge is known as the Roman River supra 11.Cf. also Roman Hill Field infra 617. For the modern name v. Manwood Fm supra .
