Etymology

Rolls site of barringtons(6″) is Little Chigwell called Barrington 's maner 1479 M, Barrington fee 1589Ct , Barringtons , Rolles 1542Waller . The estate was granted by Alberic de Vere (t. Stephen or Hy 2) to Humphrey de Barinton (M i, 166) and was held in 1274 (Cl) by Nicholas de Barenton , whose family name survives in Barrington Hall supra 41. Rolls from the family of William Rolte (sic), who held the manors of Chigwell and West Hatch a. 1550 (Pat).
