Etymology

uppe on anne þoure 833(14)(apparently with reference to the ridge at the E cornerof the par., but the form looks corrupt, possibly for torr'rocky peak' witha spelling influenced by ME  tour'tower'(cf. a late 13th cent. spellingThour for this noted by Löfvenberg 214, and cf. Towerhill Gl 3 21);however C. Hart(DoNHAS 86 158) suggests þoure should read þonre, forþorne'thorn-tree')
