Etymology

Like Winterborne Kingston supra , named from R. Winterborne; the affixes are from the families of de Turbervill (Walter de Turbervill 1204 RC, FineR, 1205 P, Bartholomew de Turbervill , Bartholomew de Turberuill 1228 FF, cf. Melbury Sampford par. infra and Bryants Puddle in Affpuddle par. infra ), and de Musters (Walter de Musters , Walter de Mustries 1242 Sarum, Walter de Monasteriis 1244Ass , Robert de Mousters 1311 Pat, Roger de Musters 1317MiltC , cf. Muston Fm in Piddlehinton par. infra ), v. tūn . On the identification of the DB forms, v. Eyton 121–2, VCHDo 3135 and Winterborne Came par. supra . It is possible that the form Winterborne Willelmi filii Radulphi Ed IAddCh (granted by Johanna filia Johanne filie Willelmi Radulphi ) refers to part of this manor. In fact Winterborne Muston and Winterborne Turberville were originally distinct settlements, the latter (the more westerly) being now called Abbot's Court Fm q. v. supra (RCHMDo 3 300).
