Etymology

Thurstanesley (lost), Thurstanesley 1774 Hutch1, 1863 Hutch3, Turstanesheygh 1396 IpmR, Turstaynyshegh 1397 Cl, Thurstaynesheghes 1424 IpmR, from hay 'enclosure' and the pers.n. or surname T (h )urstan (< ON  þorsteinn , ODan  Thorsten ), cf. William Thurstayn 1327 SR (Beaminster). It is no doubt significant that the tenant-in-chief of the two DB manors of Stoches (for which v. Mandeville Stoke Fm supra ) was Turstinus (filius Rolf ) (the OFr form of the same pers.n.).
