The ford was no doubt at Crawford Bridge infra where the Almer-Tarrant Crawford road crosses R. Stour; the manor lay 'contiguous to Middlestreet on the south' (Hutch3 3521). The affixes Magna and Great distinguish it from Tarrant Crawford par. infra (earlier Parva or Little Crawford ), where some of the early unaffixed forms cited above may strictly belong. For the DB identification, v. DBGazetteer 119, cf. VCHDo 3110.
