Etymology

Chapel Court (ST 456064), Chapel Court 1811 OS, Chapel Court Farm 1838TAMap , 1863 Hutch3, Chapell (manor of) 1486 Ipm, named from chapel (of All Saints ) of Mortesthorne 1307 Hutch3, 1308 Drew, v. chapel(e), court , and cf. Robert de la Chapele 1256 FF, Chapel Cl , Chapel Md & Chapel Yd , Hr Chapel Plot & Lr Chapel Plot 1838TA . Chapel Court is situated just E of the site of the original parish church (marked St Mary's Church (Site of) 6″), which dated from the late 15th cent, and was taken down c.1832 when the present church was built (Kelly). It would appear that the chapel of All Saints was an even earlier building on the same site; historically, Mosterton was a parochial chapelry in S Perrott par. infra (1795 Boswell).
