Etymology

OE  mōr 'marshy ground' to distinguish this place from Long Crichel par. infra , q. v. for etymology and earlier forms, cf. Moore in f.ns. infra . Richard de Sifrewast held the manor in 1212 Fees (92), v. Hutch3 3123 and cf. John Cypherwast '1332 SR, Avice Cyfrewaste 1564Glyn . Magna to distinguish it from Little Crichel in this par.
