Etymology

Bedmill (Copse), Bedmill Fm (ST 609156), Biddmyll 1569–74Map , Bidmill 1590Salis , 1614Digby , Bedmill 1677ib , Bed Mill 1843TA , probably identical in origin with Bydemylne in Wimborne M. 2 192, v. myln , first el. either byden 'a vessel, a hollow' or an OE  pers.n. Bida . There was a mill at Bedmill (ST 606150) at an early date, since the former stream here (6″ but not 1″), an affluent of R. Yeo, is apparently referred to in the Anglo-Saxon bounds of Bradford A. as mylenburnan 933 (12) SherC (S 422) and in those of Thornford as mylenburnna 903 for 946–51 (12) ib (S 516), 'mill stream', v. burna , cf. Forsberg 6.
