Etymology

Wyke Regis (together with Elwell in Upwey par. supra ) is a liberty, v. note under Culliford Tree hundred supra . In 1895 part of Wyke Regis (Westham, etc.) was transferred to Weymouth par., and in 1933 part of it was transferred to the borough of Weymouth, the remainder to the par. of Chickerell for civil purposes (Kelly).
