Etymology

v. dun . This is a difficult name. Association with the East Sussex Glynde (PN Sx 352), which seems never to be found outside that area, is out of the question. Possibly we have a hybrid compound of Cornish glen , glin , 'valley,' cf. Glynn (Co), and dun , hence 'hill by or above the valley.' A well marked valley runs into the hill on which Glendon stands.
