Etymology

The probable meaning is 'at the seven stones,' though no trace of such now remains. Cf. Zeaston supra 287. The place is to be identified with ( ) sufen stanas (BCS 1323). In that charter the next boundary mark is hyfan treow , which is undoubtedly Heatree, some three miles NNE of Soussons.
