Etymology

v. hiwisc . The first element is apparently the gen. pl. of OE  mūl , 'mule,' perhaps referring to a farm where these animals were kept. Cf. Moulton (Nth), Multone DB, Muleton 1163 P, 1229 Ch, Multon 1200 Cur.
