Etymology
Professor Ekwall and Dr Ritter agree in suggesting OE Bicelantūn , involving a pers. name *Bicela which would be a diminutive of the exceedingly common Devon Bic (c )a (cf. Abbots Bickington infra 124). The DB form must be corrupt.
