Etymology

v. higna , dun . The reference must be to land belonging to some household or community, not necessarily religious. Cf. hina land (BCS 542) and hine hylle (BCS 890), in a ME text. The 'household' may possibly be that of the neighbouring royal manor of Holsworthy.
