Etymology

'Clearing of Đur or Đuri ,' v. leah . For these Anglo-Scandinavian pers. names, v. Björkman NP 146, 158, and cf. ðureslege KCD 784 in the bounds of Ayston (R). 'Durandus filius Ricardi' held part of the manor in 1242 (Fees 777) and his name may have affected the ultimate development. See also Introd. xxxv.
