Etymology
The forms are difficult to reconcile with one another. Professor Förster suggests that the first element may be the Cornish ke , Welsh cae (from *cai ), 'enclosure, field.' There are on the modern map Keaton and Caton on either side of the Erme river, presumably the same name.
