Etymology

v. worþig . The first element must be a late pers. name *Lugga . This is not recorded but may be related to Lucc (a ), which is well evidenced. Cf. such pairs as Pubba , Puppa , Wocca , Wogga (v. Ogwell infra 461), etc.
