Blomé (135) quotes the probable parallels scobbanora (BCS 932) and scobban byrgels (KCD 673) in illustration of the first element, which must be an unrecorded pers. name Sc (e )obba ; the second is ceaster , but nothing is known of any early fortification here. For initial sc , v. lntrod. xxxv.
