Cockington

Early-attested site in the Parish of Alwington

Historical Forms

  • Cokemeton 1244,1317 Ass
  • Kokemeton 1278 Ass
  • Cokhampton 1281 Ass
  • Cokmanton 1330 SR

Etymology

Here again the relation of the forms to one another is very difficult. It is uncertain if the form Cokemanton cited by Blomé (33) from a Fine of 1223 really refers to this place.
