Etymology
Belph Grange (6″), grangia de Belgh 1305Welbeck , The graunge of Belgh ' otherwise called Hyrste 1535 Val. 'Grange belonging to Belph', v. grange ; it was held from the 12th century by Worksop Priory. The earlier name was Hirst 1154–67 (1316), 1179 (1328), 1291, 1316 Ch, le Herst 1277 Darley (p), Hurst 1316 Ch, Hyrst 1397 ib. 'Wooded bank', v. hyrst .
