Etymology

Gannow (6″), Gannow (e )1580FF , 1603Ct , cf. Gunno flu (d )1577 Saxton, 1610 Speed (now County Dike), the stream-name being presumably from the p.n. This is another example of the fairly common p.n. Gannow and is no doubt to be connected with ME  gannok perhaps in some such sense as 'shelter', v. gannok .
