Etymology

Boythorpe, Buitorp 1086 DB, Boitorp , Boytorp , Boythorp (e )1185 Templars (p), 1185, 1186, 1187, 1188 P (p), late 12th RegAnt (p), 1234 Fees, 1269Ass et freq . 'Boie's outlying farm', v. þorp ; cf. Boythorpe (PN ERY 115). Boia is a late OE pers.n., perhaps of Continental origin, v. Feilitzen 205, but Boie , also a loan, is common in ODan and such a source might well be considered here.
