Etymology

Roystone Grange, grangia de Reuston (e )s 1330Ass , Revestanes 1340 Ch , Reviston and Raunston (sic)1535 Val, Royston Grange 1567DuLaSC , Ravenstone , Ryston or Royston Grange 1585 Moulton. The evidence of the later forms suggests that there were alternative names for this place. The earlier may be 'reeve's stones', v. (ge)rēfa, stān , whilst the alternative name is 'raven's or ravens' stones', v. hræfn , stān . The grange belonged to Garendon Abbey (Lei), v. grange .
