Etymology

New Ho (100–240882), Neubolt 1291 Tax, 1385ChFor , Neubold 1357ChFor (p), Newbold 1552 (17), 1660 Sheaf, Newbald 1639 ib, Newbott 1546 Brownbill 186, Newe House 1578 ib, the New House 1579 Sheaf, 1676 Orm2, Newhouse 1613 ib, 'new house', v. nīwe , bold , hūs . In 1385ChFor , Newbold , Newton and Larton are all included in Great Caldy (i.e. Grange). In 1676 Orm2 ii488, Newhouse is said to be in Newton. The TA boundaries place it in Grange township. The later form of the name probably arose from a rebuilding.
