Wodanclogh c. 1380–1415Bowman, Barnes2(probably'crooked valley', from wōh and denu, with clōh.Dr Barnes in LCAS lxxi 48 suggests the god-name Wōden as first el., butthis usually appears with gen.sg. inflexion, and often in a mutated form,i.e. Wōdnes -, Wēdnes -, and it would be rash to insist upon so important anetymology on the evidence of the recorded form. Cf. Wedneshough Green309 infra).
