Etymology

'At the black hill', from blæc (wk.dat. blacan ) and cnoll alternating with cnotta , v. lordes(c)hip. The township is named from the headland of Blacon Point infra , cf. Blacon Hall, Blacon Point (farm) infra . A shortened form of the p.n. has prevailed, but the Blak (e )ne , Blakeney series indicates an intermediate form in the process.
