Etymology

Booston Wood (109–385790), Bolstan 1340ChFor , Bulston (lit. Dulston ) 1351 BPR iii24, le champ de Bulston ', le Bonk de Bulston ', Bulstonfeld 1402JRC , Great Booston Wood & Little Booston Wood 1831 Bry, from an unidentified first el. (perhaps bult 'a heap, a hillock') and stān 'a stone, a rock', with wudu , feld , banke . The name was probably taken from a rock on the shore of Mersey, cf. Poolehall Rocks infra .
