Etymology

'Sand, the sandy place', v. sand , cf. Sandford Bridge infra . Sound demonstrates a typical NWMidl over-rounding (OE  sand > sond > sōnd > ME s nd > sūnd (spelled sound )) seen also in OE  land > ME  lond > lound , etc. Cf. Sunes infra .
