Etymology

There was certainly a manor of Hallinges in Stoke Mandeville, but it is by no means certain that its site was Hall End as has been suggested. However that may be, Halling is from OE  Heallingas , 'Heall's people.' v. Ekwall PN-ing 37, 180.
