Historical Forms
- Andrigge 1227 Ass
- Handridge 1826 B
Etymology
A difficult name. The second element is hrycg. Does the first derive from the Andr ' who is described as Andr ' de Andrigge in the reference given above? If so, it is 'Andrew's ridge,' but that is very doubtful. Alternatively it may, like Anderton (La), contain OE Éanrǣd .
