Etymology
'Assembly-hill' v. þing , hyrst . For the full significance of this name v. Introd. The change from initial th to f is not uncommon in dialect and place-names generally and exactly the same change has taken place in Finedon (Nth). For v from f, v. Introd. xxv. The pronunciation of ng as [ndʒ] is noteworthy.
