Etymology

The identification seems probable, as in the enquiry with reference to the killing of Juliana daughter of Richard of Oxefrid , the vills of Hughenden, Saunderton, West Wycomb, Radnage, all neighbouring parishes found the accused party guilty by inquest. If so the old name is 'ox wood.' v. fyrhþ .For the reduction of the final element cf. Hoastley Park (Ess), earlier Horsfreth park (Cl).
