Etymology

'Hring's healh.' The name Hring is not actually found in OE  but compounds with Hring -though rare, are adequately recorded. Hringuine occurs in a genuine Kentish charter of 762.In place-names, Hring forms the first element in Ringshall and Ringsfield (Sf) and Ringesdone , DB, in Rippingale (L). The same uncompounded name is found in German and ON.v. Hringa in Förstemann (PN) and Hringr in Lind, Norsk - Isländska Dopnamn .
