Etymology

This may be an early example, much earlier than any recorded in the NED of spirt , 'jet of liquid.' Cf. Spertemede in Denham (HarlCh 85 C56). In Holly Tree Lane, the direct continuation of the present very short Spurt St, there are several springs (Harman).
