OE  cealfra -tūn , 'calves' farm' v. cealf , tun . The Nt place of this name is called [kɔˑvətən] or [kɑˑvətən], but no pronunciation except the spelling one has been traced for this one.In 1227 (Ass ) there is mention of a Caluercote , apparently in Calverton.
