Etymology

v. burhsteall . Lipscomb quotes (i. 55) from Hearne's Preface to Robert of Gloucester his statement that 'The people of Borstall are mightily pleased when any one tells them that B. is the same with the Saxon word which signifies “a seat on the side of a hill,” which exactly answers to this place.' For this confusion of beorg and burh , v. EPN 11.
