Etymology

Originally a stream-name, for which v. Pt 113. Ekwall, PN -ing (1st ed. 1923) 163 n.1, suggests that the forms with -e - point to an OE  *Lǣcing , a variant with i-mutation of the name Lācing . For the palatalisation of -ing v. Introd.
