Etymology

Balsdon Fm, Beletteston 1273 Ipm, Balatteston 1312 AD, 1317, 1353 Ipm, 1422 AD, Balletteston 1318 Cl, Baletstone 1318, 1366 AD, Balattesdon 1331 Ipm, Baltersden 1341 Pat, Baladeston 1358 Ipm, 1364 Pat, 1422 AD, Balatston 1401–2 FA, Balston otherwise called Balateston 1494 Ipm, Balsam 1761 Rocque. The estate had passed into the hands of John Belet of Enbourne before 1230–1 (VCH iv, 210). cf. Marlston (Pt 1 154–5), and v. IPN 118 for a discussion of these late names in –tūn . This estate was sometimes called Bellettes Ingeflod ', Ingeflot Belet etc., for which name v. Inglewood infra .
