Historical Forms
- Hackpin Hill 1761 Rocque 1830 OS
Etymology
Hackpen Hill, Hackpin Hill 1761 Rocque, 1830 OS. The name Hackpen occurs in W (W 310–11) and D (D 538). It appears to be a combination of OE haca 'hook', and the British word *penno - 'head'.Without early forms it is impossible to say whether the Berks name is a third example, or whether this hill was so called in imitation of the one in W.
