Etymology

The Hockett, le Nockett 1606SpecCom , Hockett or Rockett 1609 Darby, Knockett 1661SpecCom . Probably from āc 'oak', and the collective suffix -et . Names of this type are particularly common in Sr (Sr 358–9), where there is another example with āc (la Okette 1294).Cf. also Robert atte Okette of Winchfield Ha, mentioned 1328 Cl, and Hockett Wood in Bucklebury, for which no early forms have been found.
